Spinal Injuries Scotland Golden Jubilee!
2010 is not only the beginning of a new decade, but marks the 50th anniversary since the inception of Spinal Injuries Scotland. The forward-thinking people who began SIS all those years ago would, we are sure, approve of the current success and future plans of the charity.
In recent years we have increased our service provision both within the spinal injuries unit in Glasgow and on a national level, through improved peer support; both by staff and volunteers.
One of the most exciting aspects of our progress is the ongoing development of Clober Farm, a flat we were bequeathed in Milngavie, near Glasgow, which will be renovated into state-of-the-art respite accommodation for those with spinal cord injury.
Look out for more information on this and other events that will take place during the course of 2010, to mark this huge milestone for the charity.
Spinal Injuries Scotland is the national voluntary organisation concerned with new and long-term spinal cord injured people, their relatives and friends, along with those involved in the management, care and rehabilitation of the injury.
SIS provides immediate support through the office based Information Service and operate a self-referral information line. We also provide a legal and welfare rights advisory service. Our representatives, who are able to discuss all aspects of living with a spinal cord injury, undertake weekly visits to the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit.
In addition we liaise with other similar voluntary and professional organisations so that the issues surrounding spinal cord injury are recognised and understood.
Spinal Injuries Scotland’s Presence at Outreach Clinics
Did you know that there is a representative available for you to speak to at all of the outreach clinics that the liaison sisters attend?
These clinics are Aberdeen, Inverness, Arbroath, Dumfries and the Borders.

Accessible rail travel
I must confess, as a wheelchair user, my transport of choice is my car. I rarely use the train for anything other than long trips to the likes of London.
But what if I decided to follow the pleas of the environmental lobby and switch from my car to public transport?
