How to and FAQs
Q: How do I comment on a blog post?
A: It’s quite simple. At the end of the post you should see the “leave a reply” boxes. Just fill in your name (a nickname or initials will do), your email address (so that we know it’s a genuine comment and not spam), then leave your comment in the large box a click “submit content”.
If you don’t see the “post a reply” boxes, try clicking on the title of the post itself.
Q: I posted a comment but it hasn’t appeared on the post yet, why?
A: To prevent spam and inappropriate content, we have to approve all comments. The Blog is only monitored during office hours from Tuesday to Friday, so if you posted out with these times it may take a while for your comment to get approved. Please note: You are free to express your opinions, and we want to encourage debate and discussion. We won’t reject your comments unless they contain offensive or inappropriate content.
If you have not had your comment approved, please drop us an email at: info@sisonline.org
Q: What is an RSS feed?
A: Depending on who you ask, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. RSS feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest news and blog updates in one place, as soon as it’s published, without having to visit the website you have taken the feed from.
Q: How do I use RSS feeds?
A: There are many different ways of viewing and managing RSS feeds. First, you’ll need something called an RSS reader. This is essentially a piece of software that checks the feeds you want and then lets you read any new items that have been added.
There are a number of web-based RSS readers such as Google Reader, which allow you to view feeds on any computer. The newer versions of most of the major web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari all have basic RSS readers built into them. You can also download and install a stand-alone feed reader onto your computer (there are too many to list). You can even get RSS feeds via various apps on your Android phone or iPhone.
Once you have chosen your feed reader you need to find some feeds. Most feeds can be identified by the RSS logo
but sometimes they are just a normal web address. You should check with your RSS reader how best to add feeds, but generally you drag the URL of the feed you want or “cut and paste” it into your reader.
