Research Project:
Partner caregivers wanted!
Dr Adele Dickson of Napier University, Edinburgh and Professor Ronan O’Carroll of the University of Stirling are working with Mr David Allan (Clinical Director of the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit for Scotland) on a project looking at the emotional experience and quality of life of partner caregivers of people living with a spinal cord injury.
The project involves taking part in an interview. The interview is just like an informal chat where you will be asked about how your life has changed since you became a caregiver. Although we have some questions that we would like to ask you, we hope that you will just talk about what is important to you. We are particularly interested in how you think your emotions have changed since becoming a caregiver and the physical, emotional and social difficulties that you face. We would also like to learn about how you have adjusted to your new caregiver role, how you cope with the difficulties that come along with it and how you think being a caregiver has affected your overall quality of life.
The interview will last for about an hour (no longer than 75 minutes). A private room will be arranged at the Southern General Hospital (Glasgow) for the research to take place or we can do it in your own home (if you would prefer). If you decide to come to the Southern General Hospital, all travel expenses will be reimbursed (up to the cost of £24). A date and time which is suitable for you will also be arranged. Your participation and anything that you say during the interview will be completely confidential.
