Getting Involved

Getting involved can be rewarding and interesting; plus it helps us to continue the valuable work we do for those living with Spinal Cord Injury. There are a number of ways to get involved and we are always on the lookout for people with the right knowledge and expertise to enhance the service we provide to our members.

Joining Up
SIS is a member-led organisation and is free to join. Members have a say in all that we do, from electing our board of Directors to influencing the future direction of Spinal Injuries Scotland and the services which we provide. It is your organisation so please help us to help you!

Volunteering
Becoming a volunteer with SIS has led a number of our members down the tentative road back into employment post-injury. It gives a great sense of satisfaction to be part of a team, out there helping others with SCI and the realisation that if you can do voluntary hours, then you can do paid hours also. Over the years a number of our volunteers have gone on into full-time employment, some even with SIS. Giving a little of your time can have immeasurable value for those getting over the trauma of the injury; all our volunteers are given training.

Benefits
Becoming a member of the SIS gives you access to Legal & Welfare advice, the quarterly Newsline Magazine and the big plus of having access to our experienced staff and volunteers, many of whom have lived with spinal injury or have relevant other skills such as caring for someone with the injury. We have an extensive database of information on everything from accessible holidays to financial advice and from suppliers of wheelchairs and other aids to driving schools and sports clubs.
